★ 4.9/5 from 4,900+ Reviews  •  110% Price Match  •  Free Proofs

By placing an order with 4OVER4, you agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions.
Please make sure you have read all of the below policies and terms before placing an order. 4OVER4 is not responsible if your order does not meet these terms and requirements.

General Description

4OVER4 prints the majority of its cardstock products on FSC Certified, 14-point coated cardstock. This includes business cards, postcards, bookmarks, ripcards, rackcards, greeting cards, and hangtags.

A 14-point uncoated cardstock—also recycled and FSC Certified—is available as well.

We have recently added several new paper types, such as 16-point stocks and plastic papers.

Brochures, posters, and booklets are normally printed on 100 lb. coated text. An uncoated version (70 lb. uncoated text) is also available.

4OVER4 also prints on 17-point magnetic paper, plus a wide variety of paper-faced labels in both white and multi-colored variations, and a full line of synthetic, film-based labels such as white vinyl and clear vinyl.

If you need a product or material not listed on our website, please email us for a custom quote at support@4OVER4.com. In most cases, we can print it.

High-gloss UV coating services are available on many products, selectable through the Finish dropdown menu.

If you need a custom size, we can produce it. Please email support@4OVER4.com for a quote.

Production

Our posted turnaround times begin only after an order has been "APPROVED."
An order is considered "APPROVED" and enters production only when all of the following conditions are met:

  1. An order form has been completely filled out.
  2. All files have been correctly submitted.
  3. The customer has approved the online proof or hard-copy proof (if ordered) and confirmed production may begin.
  4. Payment information has been provided.
  5. If a hard-copy proof is ordered, it must be signed and returned to 4OVER4 in addition to the conditions above.

Turnaround times are measured in business days only.

Saturday, Sunday, and holidays on which we are closed are not production days.

After files are submitted, a 4OVER4 representative will review them at no charge.
We review files only for technical issues that may prevent printing—such as resolution, color mode, or missing fonts/images.
We do not evaluate artistic or design quality (color combinations, font size choices, layout quality, etc.).

If the files are acceptable, we will generate an online proof and email instructions for viewing it.

If the proof is approved, you must call our offices to authorize production and provide payment information (or submit payment online).

Once payment is provided and production begins, no cancellations, refunds, or returns are accepted.

Approval before 3:00 PM EST is treated as approval on the same business day.

Approval after 3:00 PM EST is treated as approval on the next business day.

Files are reviewed in the order they are received. Due to volume, file checks can take up to 24 hours.

Proofing and Color Disclaimer

Monitor calibration varies, and printed colors may differ from what is displayed on your screen. Online proofs are intended only as a rough representation of the final printed product.

For reprints, we strongly recommend mailing us a physical sample so we can attempt to match the colors.

For color-critical work, we recommend ordering a hard-copy color proof.

Although we will attempt to match colors, 4OVER4 does not guarantee color matching.

Equipment malfunction or pre-press issues may delay production.
All production and delivery schedules are non-contractual, and no employee—verbally or in writing—can guarantee turnaround times.

Please plan accordingly for time-sensitive projects.

Turnaround

For guaranteed same-day or next-day turnaround requests, call 888-546-8374 to confirm whether arrangements can be made.

Turnaround times apply only to printing.
Shipping transit time is additional.

For example:
A 3-day turnaround with 2-day shipping results in a 5 business-day delivery window from the time the job is APPROVED.

Printing and Cutting

We produce postcards and similar products using gang-run printing on 4-color offset presses. We make every reasonable effort to produce a faithful representation based on your supplied files; however, 4OVER4 does not guarantee color matching.

File requirements:

  • All artwork must include a 1/8 inch bleed on all sides. A $25 fee applies if we must add bleed for you.
  • Critical text/images must be at least 1/8 inch from the edge.
  • Thin borders can result in uneven framing due to cutting tolerances; borders should be at least 1/4 inch thick.

Files must meet all posted layout specifications.
Non-compliant files will delay production and may incur additional costs.

If a third-party designer prepares your files, ensure they follow all submission requirements.

If a production error occurs, 4OVER4 must be notified promptly.
We will determine whether the defect qualifies for a discount, reprint, or refund.

Failure to notify us of any defect within 10 days of receiving the job voids eligibility for reprints, refunds, or discounts.

To receive a refund or free reprint, the original job must be returned so the defect can be verified.

Payments

We accept:

  • Cash
  • Money orders
  • Certified/bank checks
  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • American Express
  • Discover

Once an order is "APPROVED" and enters production, refunds are not possible.

Although 4OVER4 archives many files, we do not guarantee file retention.
Customers must keep their own backups.

Liability

Disclaimer of Express Warranties:
4OVER4 warrants that the work will match the description provided in the purchase order. Drafts, proofs, and preliminary materials are for demonstration only.

Disclaimer of Implied Warranties:
4OVER4's maximum liability—whether in contract, negligence, or otherwise—shall not exceed the amount paid for the disputed job.

Under no circumstances will 4OVER4 be liable for consequential, individual, or specific damages.

Return Policy / Reprints

4OVER4 accepts return requests within 30 days of delivery. Because all products are custom printed to customer specifications, returns are accepted only for items that are defective, damaged, or produced in error by 4OVER4. Returns are not accepted for change-of-mind requests, customer-submitted design errors, or approved proof errors.

To qualify for a return, refund, or reprint:

  • A return request must be submitted within 30 days of delivery.
  • Photographic evidence of the defect must be provided.
  • 100% of the product must be returned.
  • The approved return must be shipped back within 10 days of authorization.

Return shipping costs for approved defective items are covered by 4OVER4. No restocking fees apply.

If a claim is approved, the customer will receive either:

  • A free reprint using the original shipping method, or
  • A refund of the original purchase amount.

Indemnification

The customer agrees to protect 4OVER4 from economic loss and all other consequences arising from the work.

This includes indemnifying and defending 4OVER4 against claims, demands, legal actions, and proceedings of all types, regardless of negligence.

Copyrights and Personal Rights

The customer warrants that:

  • The submitted material is not copyrighted by a third party.
  • No copyright notice has been removed from any supplied content.
  • The work contains nothing libelous, scandalous, illegal, or violating personal or economic rights.

The customer will defend 4OVER4—at the customer's expense—against any legal actions based on these issues.

4OVER4 reserves the right to refuse printing of any content that appears illegal, infringing, or inappropriate.

Taxes

All taxes and assessments will be added to the customer's invoice and are the customer's responsibility.

Tax exemption requires a valid exemption certificate submitted with the order.

If additional tax is later assessed, the customer must remit the required amount to the taxing authority or reimburse 4OVER4 for any tax paid.

Your Go-To Printing Terms Glossary

Blank Templates

Printing has its own language. Bleed, CMYK, die-cut, spot UV - if you've ever stared at a product page wondering what any of that means, you're not alone. This printing terms glossary breaks down the jargon so you can order with confidence.

4OVER4 has printed 10 billion+ cards and counting. Along the way, we've learned that customers who understand print terminology make better choices - and end up happier with their results. That's why we built this resource.

Whether you're a first-time buyer picking paper stock for business cards or a seasoned designer double-checking bleed specs, this glossary covers the terms you'll actually run into. No fluff. No textbook definitions nobody reads. Just clear, practical explanations tied to real products you can order today.

With 1,000+ products in the 4OVER4 catalog, there's a lot of terminology to sort through. Let's get you up to speed.

Browse our glossary below or jump straight to a blank template to see these terms in action.

How 4OVER4 Built a Print Language Everyone Can Understand

Back in 1999, online printing was brand new. Most people had never ordered print products without walking into a shop and pointing at a sample. Suddenly, customers needed to know the difference between 14pt and 32pt cardstock - without touching either one.

4OVER4 started with a simple idea: make professional printing accessible to everyone. That meant more than competitive prices and fast turnaround. It meant translating an entire industry's worth of insider language into something a restaurant owner, a freelance designer, or a startup founder could actually use.

Over 25+ years, 4OVER4 has served 150,000+ businesses. Every customer interaction taught us something about where confusion happens. People mix up "trim" and "bleed." They don't know that "CMYK" is the color mode for print while "RGB" is for screens. They wonder why their home-printed proof looks different from the final product.

This printing terms glossary grew out of those real conversations. It's not a dictionary we copied from somewhere. It's a living reference shaped by the questions actual customers ask when they're placing orders, uploading files, or choosing finishes.

Each definition connects back to 4OVER4 products and options. When you read about "soft-touch lamination," you'll know exactly what it feels like - velvety, smooth, impossible to put down. When you see "full bleed," you'll understand why your file needs that extra 0.125 inches of image beyond the trim line.

Print doesn't have to be confusing. It just needs a better translator.

Common Questions About Print Terminology

What does "bleed" mean in printing?

Bleed is the extra area of your design that extends beyond the final trim line - typically 0.125 inches on each side. It prevents white edges if the cut shifts slightly during production. Every 4OVER4 product template includes bleed guidelines.

What's the difference between CMYK and RGB?

CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) is the color mode used for printed materials. RGB (Red, Green, Blue) is for screens. Always convert your files to CMYK before uploading to avoid color shifts in your final print. You can see these color differences firsthand when ordering products like Yard Signs Printing, where bright color accuracy matters most.

What does "pt" mean when describing paper thickness?

The "pt" stands for point - a unit measuring paper thickness. A 14pt stock feels like a standard business card. A 32pt stock is about 3x thicker, closer to a credit card. This printing terms glossary covers all common paper weights you'll find at 4OVER4.

What is spot UV?

Spot UV is a glossy, raised coating applied to specific areas of a printed piece rather than the entire surface. It creates contrast between matte and shiny sections, drawing attention to logos, text, or design elements.

What does "full color" or "4/4" mean on a print order?

The notation "4/4" means full-color printing on both sides. "4/0" means full color on the front only, with a blank back. The "4" refers to the four CMYK ink colors used in the process. Browse our Signs Banners Canvas Printing category to see full-color options across a wide range of large-format products.
