Postcards Built to Survive the Mailbox
Laminated postcards arrive crisp where a plain card shows up scuffed, and gloss laminated postcards are the version that does it with a mirror bright face. It is a heavy 16 point card sealed under a high-gloss laminate film, so color stays sharp and the surface shrugs off rain, fingerprints, and a month rattling around a wallet. Run it as a direct mail piece, a durable menu card, or a loyalty card.
A first run of 250 can test one mailing list.
What Are Gloss Laminated Postcards Used For
Gloss laminated postcards suit jobs an ordinary postcard would not survive: direct mail drops, restaurant and menu cards, loyalty cards, real estate mailers, event invitations, and product inserts. For the softer side of the family, the Silk Postcards carry a smooth silk laminate with far less shine.
Why laminate a postcard
An unlaminated card leaves you and arrives somewhere else entirely. Between the two it is pulled through automated sorting equipment at speed, pressed against other mail, and dropped into a box that may have rain blowing into it. The laminate is what decides which of those marks show up on your artwork.
The film seals the printed face, so moisture sits on top as beads instead of soaking into the fiber and lifting the ink. It takes the scuffing that comes from rollers and from rubbing against envelopes, which is the damage that makes a dark photographic card look gray and used before anyone reads it. And because the film is applied under heat and pressure across the whole sheet, the card stays flat and resists the bend that a 16 point card would otherwise take in a full mail tray.
There is a color reason as well. Laminate deepens dark tones and raises contrast, so a photograph, a food shot or a black background gains depth it does not have on bare stock. If your card is mostly type on white, lamination is buying durability. If the card is a picture, it is buying both.
What Size Should Your Postcard Be
Pick the size by the message and the way the card ships. A compact 2" x 3" works as a loyalty card or a small enclosure. Mailer sizes like 4" x 6", 5" x 7" and 6" x 11" suit rack displays and mailbox drops. A full 9" x 12" reads like a mini flyer, with room for a photo, a menu, or a bold offer. The Oversized Postcards print the big mailer shapes on 22 unlaminated stocks, and the Folded Postcards double the panel count.
The photo, the print sides and the design decide how a gloss card works.
Lean into the gloss with a photo
Fill the card with one strong image, such as a product shot, a plated dish, or a home exterior, and let the finish do the selling.
Print both sides for double the pitch
Set the ink to full color on both sides and the back becomes a second billboard: a map, a menu, an offer, or a QR code. The front hooks the reader and the back closes.
Design it without a designer
Start from a free layout in our postcard design templates and change the colors, copy, and logo in the online editor. A gloss card rewards bold color and clean type, so pick a layout built around one photo.
With 22 sizes, grab the blank gloss laminated postcard template that matches your order before you lay out the art. Each one marks the 1/8" bleed and the safe margin.
Wally seals your postcard against the world
Why a stack of gloss-laminated cards outlasts a plain postcard.

A gloss laminate wraps every 16 point postcard so color stays sharp and the card shrugs off rain, scuffs, and months in a wallet. Order 250 from $74.53, size it from 2 by 3 up to 9 by 12 inch, print one side or both, and Wally runs it on the press that has served New York since 1999.
How Much Do Gloss Laminated Postcards Cost
Gloss laminated postcards start at $74.53 per set of 250, about 30 cents a card, and the per-card price falls at each tier toward 25,000, where a card runs close to a nickel. A 5,000-card mailing is $276.63, under 6 cents each. Move the slider below to your list size for the total.
What Makes the 16 Point Gloss Laminated Stock Different
There is one stock here on purpose: 16 point cover with a high-gloss laminate bonded over the print. Oil from a food counter wipes off the sealed face, which suits a menu card. If you want that same durability with a soft, matte hand instead of shine, the Soft Touch Postcards carry the same idea with a velvety finish.
Can you write on a laminated postcard
Not with a ballpoint. A gloss laminated face is a sealed plastic film, so ballpoint and gel ink skate across it and rub off with a thumb. This matters most for the address side, because a hand written address or a stamped mailing block will not stay put on laminate.
The fix is in the artwork, not the pen. Print a white address block into the design on the side that will carry the address, and leave it clear of the image, so a mailing label sticks flat.
Gloss vs silk vs matte lamination
| Finish | Glare | Feel in the hand | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gloss laminate | High shine, reflects a light source | Slick and hard, shows fingerprints on dark areas | Photography, food, product shots and anything with deep color that has to survive the mail |
| Silk | Low sheen, sits between gloss and matte | Smooth with a soft drag, hides handling marks | Cards that mix images and type and need to look considered rather than shiny |
| Matte laminate | No shine, kills reflections | Velvety, quietest of the three | Type led cards read under bright light, and any card someone has to read at arm's length |
Choose gloss when the picture is the message. Choose silk or matte when the words are.
How Do Gloss Laminated Postcards Compare
Silk and soft touch postcards are laminated too, only without the shine. The chart below sets this card beside the standard, mini and magnet postcards on price, stock and turnaround.
How Fast Can You Get Gloss Laminated Postcards
Gloss laminated postcards print on a standard 7 business day turnaround, and when a date sneaks up you can move that to a 4 business day rush. The rush buys back time for a set percentage on top of the base price, so you only pay for speed when you actually need it. Both speeds sit in one dropdown, and across the whole shop 99.8% of orders arrive on time with 82% shipping early.

Gloss Laminated Postcards: Frequently Asked Questions
Do postcards have to be glossy?
No. Gloss is a finish, not a requirement. A plain uncoated postcard skips lamination altogether and takes a pen anywhere on the card.
